India vs Australia: Dhawan to miss first 3 ODIs to attend ill wife

Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan will miss the first 3 ODIs against Australia as he will have to look after his ailing wife. Dhawan requested BCCI to release him from the team so that he can attend his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee  who is currently unwell. Earlier, Dhawan had returned from Sri Lanka tour also to attend to his ailing mother.

Dhawan has been one of the star performers in the Indian cricket team lately, whether it is the Champions Trophy or the Sri Lanka series there after. India will play a total of 5 ODIs and 3 T20 matches, with the first ODI to be played on Sunday. It will be interesting to see who out of KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane gets to open in place of Dhawan.

  “Team India opener Mr Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India, 2017 to attend to his wife, who is unwell,” BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said in a statement on Thursday.
