India vs Australia: Handscomb brough-in as cover for Aaron Finch

The high-octane and action-packed India versus Australia series is finally here, but even before the start of the much-awaited clash between the two giants, the visitors are in a spot of bother.

The Aussies have called up Peter Handscomb as a cover for injured Aaron Finch, who missed the only warm-up match in India against Board President’s XI.

Finch injured his calf playing county cricket for Surrey in England around six weeks ago and since then he has been out of action but has been working closely with a physiotherapist in order to be fit for the crucial series.

“Aaron re-aggravated his pre-existing calf injury during warm-up at training yesterday,” said team physio Alex Kountouris. He further added that ‘’ “He has had a scan in Chennai and although we believe it is not a serious recurrence, he will not be available for the first few one-day matches here in India. He will remain with the squad whilst we assess the injury and establish his return to play timelines’’.

Handscomb is also in fine form, recently played one of his best knocks to register 82 and while doing so he lost four and a half kilograms. Handscomb battled the baking heat, humidity, the running-out fluids and the dangerous Bangladeshi spinners to add 152 for the third wicket with Warner.
