Ahead of the tour, there were a lot uncertainty over the outcome as India’s record in South African soil was horrible, never won a series in any format, fast forward, India lost a really competitive Test series but clinched ODI and T20I series, making them the first Indian side to so since India starting touring South Africa.

This has to be India most successful tour of South Africa, winning eight out of 12 games throughout the tour, despite the double losses in the first two Tests. Virat Kohli led from the front, scoring 871 runs in 14 innings, second most runs by a captain on an away tour across all formats.

Indian wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were the heroes of the ODI series as they were virtually unplayable. The spin duo who turned the ODI series in India’s favour shared 33 wickets, which is the most by any pair of spinners in a series. Kuldeep grabbed 17 wickets at 13.88, while Chahal ended with 16 scalps at 16.37 apiece.

India finished as the top-ranked side in Test and ODI, occupying the third spot in T20Is makes India the only team to be within the top three in all formats of the game. It is safe to say India did really well and proved doubters wrong with the performance in South Africa.
