Virat Kohli, who is eyeing bigger goals is all set to play English County Championship in his attempt to prepare for the upcoming Test cricket series against England in August-September 2018. He decided to skip the inaugural Test match against Afghanistan in Bangalore and BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is supporting his decision.
While he will be unavailable in order to play for County in Surrey in June, Kohli has planned to return for India’s limited overs series against Ireland and England from June 2.
Shashi Tharoor expressing his views against the cricket authority and captain tweeted:
“BCCI has its priorities clear as Virat Kohli can put the county cricket ahead of leading India in a Test match”.
To Congress ministers tweet, BCCI’s acting-secretary Amitabh Choudhary made a statement in support of Viral Kohli. Choudhary said:
“There was no intention of not to play. It was only because the English challenge is something we have to rise to, to the satisfaction of the entire cricket fraternity of this country, that Virat will abstain for the right reasons.”
“We are giving equal importance to the Test match against Afghanistan just like we gave to the Test series that took place in June 1932. Kohli is an effective active player and the absence of the home team’s skipper in order to favour county cricket is not act of disrespect to the opposition”, he said.
“Any act has to be judged by the intention which precedes it”, Amitabh Choudhary further added.
