After the recent controversy over Saurav Ganguly’s possible conflict of Interest as the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and his role as the brand ambassador of JSW Cement (Jindal Steel Works). Indian skipper Virat Kohli is also under the scanner for an alleged conflict of interest as he is the Captain of Indian Cricket Team and also the director of two ventures where his co-directors are also associated with Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment Private Limited, a talent management firm that has Indian cricketers as its clients.
A complaint has been filed with Justice DK Jain, BCCI's Ethics Officer, regarding Kohli's two conflicting positions. "I have received a complaint," Justice Jain confirmed on Sunday (June 5) "I will examine it and then see if the case is made out or not. If yes, then I have to afford an opportunity to him (Kohli) to respond."
The conflict of Interest complaint against Kohli has been filed by Sanjeev Gupta, a member of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association who has previously filed similar complaints players like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid.
Controversy over Ganguly’s Conflict of Interest erupted after he posted a picture on Instagram where he was seen wearing a JSW t-shirt with the caption “At work.”
On being asked about the potential issue of 'conflict of interest' in his association, Ganguly clarified that he is not with JSW Sports and has no say in cricketing matters of Delhi Capitals. SW Group co-owns the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the GMR Group. Ganguly has served as the mentor of the Delhi Capitals last season.
"How do I influence? I am not brand ambassador of JSW Sports (which handles Delhi Capitals in IPL). I don’t think the cement company is a sponsor of the (Delhi Capitals) team. I don’t see any conflict in it. I am not associated with their cricket; had I been, it would have been a conflict," Ganguly said.
