IPL 2020: Schedule to be announced today, if everything goes according to plan

Cricket | Friday | 4th September, 2020

The Board of Control for Cricket in India also called the BCCI is expected to release the fixtures for IPL 2020 today itself. Currently, the delay in the announcement of fixtures was caused by the much-awaited coronavirus test results of Chennai Super Kings players. Moreover, if the results turn out to be negative then it is likely that CSK will be playing the opening game if this year’s IPL against Mumbai Indians (MI). Nevertheless, if the results come out the other way around, then the dates will be postponed.

Just this previous week, thirteen members of CSK (which included two Indian players) were tested positive for COVID-19. Thus, these players were isolated and quarantined. This was the very reason for all the delay in the opening of this IPL season.

Furthermore, those 13 CSK team members were made to go through a second coronavirus test and 11 of them came out to be negative, except two.

This is for the second time in history that a whole IPL season is being held completely outside the country. In the past, IPL2009 (second season) was also the one that underwent the same scenario as this year’s reason being general elections.

Another major issue that the BCCI is facing is the scarcity of umpires for the grand league. Presently, only three overseas umpires have agreed to be a part of the event.
