On Friday, google removed one of India’s biggest digital payment apps from the play store for several hours from its online store for breaching gambling rules and guess what? This incident takes place just a day prior to the beginning of Indian Premier League tournament.

IPL is considered by the world to be the wealthiest national league across the globe. IPL is also somewhat controversial for corruption and match-fixing which often occurs centre stage.

Even though betting is illegal in India, but the fancy betting sites act as a huge attraction for its viewers to bet. The website is also legal in some parts of the country.

According to an Indian firm, Paytm had been banned for a reason which was that, Paytm had launched a fancy cricket tournament that involved cash bets and by doing this it had violated Google play store’s policies.

The company said “Today afternoon, we received communication from Google that they are suspending our app because they believe this to be a violation of their Play Store policies on gambling,”

Fortunately for Paytm it didn’t stay banned for long and came back after removing the “cashback” feature on “a recently launched game on the application”, another news agency reported.

Paytm tweeted, “Update: And we’re back!”
