Fourth Test match in Danger; BCCI sends Five players in isolation

Cricket | Monday | 4th January, 2021

The third test match is to start on Thursday in at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Recently, five players Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini were spotted sitting at a restaurant in Melbourne on Friday, this caused BCCI to launch an investigation for breaching safety protocols prior the match. The five players are asked to train separately and are to travel separately from the rest of the squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will back Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, and Navdeep Saini as the general consensus is that there hasn’t been any deliberate breach from their end

A senior BCCI member said “The players were standing outside the restaurant and due to drizzle, they had gotten inside. If this is a way of trying to unsettle the team before the third Test, it’s a bad ploy by Cricket Australia,”

The Australian has reported that the Australian players have already been informed that they will be restricted to their room when not playing or training, but the Indian contingent is yet to receive any such update. It also reports that the development has left members of the Australian team ‘upset’.

A source added “We aren’t keen on going to Brisbane if it means being stuck in the hotel again, except for going to the ground. Instead, we don’t mind being in some other city, playing both Test matches there to complete the series and returning home,”

Team India flew from Melbourne to Sydney on Monday for the third match of the Test series.
