Shreyas Iyer has joined the Lancashire Cricket Club for the upcoming Royal London Cup in the summer. He will join the club on July 15 for a month-long league stage.

Shreyas Iyer will become the sixth Indian to play for the Lancashire Cricket Club after Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Murali Karthik, and Dinesh Mongia.

Iyer has played 50 white-ball matches for India including 21 ODIs and 29 T20Is.

"Lancashire is a legendary name in English Cricket with a long-standing association with Indian Cricket. I am extremely humbled and honoured to carry the legacy forward of greats like Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman at Lancashire. Emirates Old Trafford is a world-class international stadium and I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and the supporters of the Club," Iyer said.

It seems like Lancashire got very fortunate with Iyer, as Indian cricketers are not permitted to play in the inaugural season of ECB's new competition the Hundred. The new competition is the reason why several important players are missing from the Lancashire squad for the Royal London Club as the two competitions will run simultaneously.

Lancashire will play there first match at home against Sussex on July 20 in the RLC.
