Former Odisha cricket team captain Prashant Mohapatra succumbs to Covid-19

Former Odisha cricket team captain Prashant Mohapatra died in AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Wednesday due to Covid-19. AIIMS Bhubaneswar Medical Superintendent Dr. SN Mohanty said that 47-year-old Mohapatra died at 7.51 am despite all the efforts of doctors.

Prashant`s father and Rajya Sabha MP Raghunath Mohapatra also died on May 9 due to Covid-19. Prashant`s brother Jasbant is also infected with Covid-19 and is undergoing treatment at this hospital.

Prashant was born on 1 September 1973, a was right-handed batsman.
He made his Ranji Trophy debut against Bihar in 1990. He also played in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy from the eastern side. Prashant played 45 first-class matches in which he scored 2196 runs at an average of 30.08. This includes five centuries and 11 half-centuries.

He was appointed as an umpire by BCCI after his retirement.
