Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has indicated that the bio-bubble prepared for the Indian Premier League 14 (IPL 2021) was not as secure as that of the UAE last year. Saha is the first Indian player to publicly question the strictness of the controlled environment. Saha was one of the players who tested positive for Covid-19 amid IPL 2021.
The league's 14th season was suspended midway after several cases of infection between players and support staff, which were part of a biologically safe environment, came up. Saha spoke about the Covid-19 cases in a biologically safe environment in India and said that it would have been better if the IPL had been organised in UAE like last year.
In an interview given to PTI, Saha said "It is the job of the stakeholders to assess it, but I will just say that during our training in the UAE last year, no person was present, not even the field workers."
He said, "People used to be present here, children were looking through the nearby walls. I don't want to comment too much but we saw how easily IPL was organised in UAE last year, then it started in India this year when the cases were increasing. ' The veteran Bengal cricketer arrived at his home in Kolkata after spending 14 days in isolation at a hotel in Delhi and made himself available for selection in the upcoming England tour.
On his battle with the Coronavirus, Saha said, 'I had a mild fever in the first few days, after five days I lost my smell but after four days. Currently, I am doing regular fitness activities at home, but real fitness training will start after joining the team in Mumbai. '
