The England and Wales Cricket Board is investigating their national team's limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan and wicket-keeper batsman Jos Butler for alleged racist comments mocking Indians. The ECB promised "relevant and appropriate action", saying each case would be considered on an individual basis. Butler and Morgan have used 'sir' in these posts to make fun of Indians.
Butler and Morgan's tweets were discussed on social media after Ollie Robinson was suspended for offensive tweets in 2012-13. As reported by The Telegraph Morgan and Buttler mocked Indians by using the word ‘Sir’. A look at Buttler's tweets confirms that he did use the word ‘Sir’ and wrote broken English, which allegedly made fun of Indians.
'While the exact context of these tweets has been questioned, they were written at a time when Butler and Morgan had become established players of England and in such a situation they made such objectionable comments on social media.'
Morgan, who took over KKR captaincy from Dinesh Karthik, also used the word ‘Sir’ for Morgan while congratulating him on May 18, 2018. Buttler scored an unbeaten 94 off 53 for Rajasthan Royals on that day. Brendon McCullum, the present head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, reacted to Morgan’s tweet and allegedly mocked the Indians. “@josbuttler Sir, you play very good opening batting,” wrote Morgan.
