On This Day: Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden ODI century

Sachin Tendulkar is the God of Cricket in India and accomplished almost every record during his career that lasted more than two decades. The master blaster is the only player to have scored a hundred centuries in international cricket, including 51 centuries in Test cricket and 49 centuries in One Day Internationals, including a double ton against South Africa. But , it was surprising that the cricket legend was a little slow off the blocks and it took him 78 matches to register his first ODI hundred.

Exactly 23 years ago, Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar reached the three figure mark for 1st time in a One Day International and it came against his favourite opponent, Australia. Tendulkar entertained the fans struck a match winning ton against Aussies in the third match of the Singer World Series at R Premadasa stadium in Colombo. This was the beginning and who would have imagined then that the man will go on and scored 48 more centuries in ODIs before retiring.
