Stokes rested for T20I against West Indies, fans not happy

Ben Stokes has been rested for sold-out T20I against West Indies which set take place in Durham, the hometown of the all-rounder. The fans are not happy that their local lad will not participate in the one-off Twenty20 as a lot of marketing was centred around Stokes which has left them furious. However, skipper Eoin Morgan believes the all-rounder is overdue a rest.

Stokes was rested for the fixture as the all-rounder has played in all of England’s seven Tests and 12 of 15 ODIs this year. The main reason behind the rest Stokes was to manage his workload given the impending Ashes series later in the year.

"It's unfortunate it has to be a game at his home ground," said Morgan on Friday (September 15). "But we have to stay strong with the decisions and plans we have so down the line we don't regret playing him in a one-off game.

"I can see both sides of it - of course, guys want to see him play. If there wasn't an injury risk down the line or a huge Ashes tour coming up potentially he might be able to play."
