After ICC introduced major changes to the laws of cricket on Tuesday, the test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka would be the first series for which the new rules would be applicable. The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and may see a player being shown the red card like in other sports like Football.
One of the significant change brought in was that a player can now be sent off the field for the rest of the match for any serious misconduct (Level 4 offence).
Level 4 Offence includes-
1. Threat of assault on an umpire or referee
2. Physical assault of another player, umpire, referee, official or spectator
3. Using language or gestures that seriously offends race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin
There have been many ugly fights in cricket either among the players and sometimes even between the umpire and the player. Earlier, the punishment included a fine or sometimes even a suspension from the upcoming matches. But for the first time, a cricket player would be sent off the field during play.
