In the recent series, Moeen Ali may have ended the final test match against South Africa with a hat-trick, but that does not necessitate him to drink champagne or spray it all across to mark the celebrations. Like many times before, Ali once again moved away from his teammates and did not allow even a single bubble to land on him due to religious reasons. Moeen Ali is a strict muslim and teetotaller and is of Pakistani descent.
Apart from the win, Moeen had also been named the man of the series for his terrific performance throughout the series. Moeen said: “The team understand I stay away from the champagne thing. I don’t feel I miss out — it’s just spraying a bottle, not that exciting really!. But we have a great laugh. I really enjoy being in the changing room.”
Last year also Moeen and England spinner Adil Rashid moved away from celebrations after England’s win.
England now face West Indies in a home Test series and will like to continue their form before they go Down Under for the all-important Ashes Test series against Australia later this year.
