The player retention policy is likely to remain as BCCI are in favour of continuing the tradition, providing all eight franchise, including Rajasthan Royals and Chennai the right to preference over their respective players.

Meaning there is every possibility that the star players could stay with their respective team come to the 2018 Indian Premier League. However, there’s a slight catch, the players would be given the option to decide whether they want to stay or hit the auction block.

In terms of returning team Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, the owners would have the first preference over the likes of Dhoni, Jadeja or R Ashwin. After the two teams were banned, all the players on their roster played for either Lions or the Supergiants.
