India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the fastest bowler to pick-up 300 Test wicket in the second match against Sri Lanka.

"I really hope I can go on to double these 300 wickets, I have only played 50 Tests. It's not easy bowling spin, it looks like you're just ambling up. But there's a lot behind it," Ashwin said.

Ashwin scalped four wickets in the fourth day of the match and eight in total with 4/67 in the first innings to help India go one up in the series.

With the help of his excellent bowling, Ashwin entered the ‘300 club’ in the longest format of the game and also became the fastest to reach there in 54 Test, breaking a record previously held by Australian legend Dennis Lillee, who achieved the feat in 56 Test in 1981.

Ashwin also completed 50 Test wickets in 2017 and by doing he became the first Indian and third overall bowler to take 50 Test wickets in three consecutive years with Shane Warne and Muralitharan being the other two. He had claimed 62 wickets in 2015, and staggering 72 in 2016.
