India women team produced a superb all-round performance to defeat South Africa by 88 runs in the first ODI of the ICC Women Championship at Diamond Oval.

Batting first, the visitors got off to a brilliant start courtesy of opener Smriti Mandhana, who scored a masterful 84 off 98 balls while skipper Mithali Raj scored 45 to help India post 213 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing 214 for a win, the home side failed to stitch partnerships and kept losing wickets cheaply. Eventually, the Indian bowlers bundled out the South Africans for just 125 runs in 43.2 overs.
