It was a comprehensive victory for India in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka and Shikhar Dhawan played a big role in the win as he struck his fastest century till date in ODIs. Dhawan had been named the man of the series for the test series as well and is in the form of his life. Dhawan surpassed his previous record of 73 ball century against the West Indies back in 2013 at Kanpur.

After the innings Dhawan talked about the hard time when he was out of the side and what failure has taught him. “It’s a long time (until the next World Cup). I would like to keep performing well. That would be my goal because if I don’t perform, there are such great batsmen in our side that anyone can take my place. Failure teaches you a lot and I am lucky I have learnt so much out of that, “ said Dhawan.

Shikhar Dhawan had been dropped from the Indian side last year after the New Zealand series and it was only in the Champions Trophy this year that he found his touch back and has there has been no looking back since then. India still have four more ODIs and T20 to play against Sri Lanka and that also provides Dhawan the opportunity to inflict more damage on the Lankan bowlers.
