When we talk of mystery spinners, Sri Lanka comes to mind because of the number of such spinners they have produced over the years. Whether it is Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis , Lakshan Sandakanand now Akila Dananjaya. Although, Mendis faded away over time, it will be interesting to see if Dananjaya continues to show such performances on a consistent basis.
He took everyone by surprise by foxing top Indian batsman including Virat Kohli and almost won the game for Sri Lanka. He rewound the clock to 2008 where Ajantha Mendis had left the Indian batsman confused in the Asia Cup final match, which Sri Lanka won in the end.
"We would have been happy had we won the game. I am very sad at the moment. I would have returned a happy man had we won," said Dananjaya.
It would be interesting to see what happens in the remaining three matches of the series, which many have predicted to be a cake walk for India. If Dananjaya performs like this and finds support from others as well, Sri Lanka may get into winning ways once again.
