India vs Sri Lanka: Shikhar Dhawan set to miss the remaining matches of the tour

Cricket | Sri Lanka Vs India 2017 | Sunday | 3rd September, 2017

India’s inform and dynamic opener Shikhar Dhawan won’t take part in the remaining matches against Sri Lanka which includes 5th one day international and one-off T20 match. The reason for his absence is that he is on his way back home to attend to his ailing mother.

The BCCI released a statement that Dhawan left for India on 3rd September to attend to his mother, who is stable and recovering well at the moment.

"Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India tomorrow i.e. September 3rd to see his ailing mother. Mr Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment," the BCCI said in a statement.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for the 5th ODI and the only T20I, scheduled on September 3rd and 6th respectively in Colombo," it added.

Dhawan absence means Ajinkya Rahane may be given the nod to opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in the remaining two matches in the tour.

Shikhar Dhawan has been in splendid form on the tour, coming up with two centuries in the Test, followed by unbeaten 132 and 49 in the first two ODIs before falling for single-digit scores in the other two.
