India vs Sri Lanka: Bhuveneshwar, Kohli lead India to 5-0 series win

Cricket | Sri Lanka Vs India 2017 | Monday | 4th September, 2017

Virat Kohli’s 30th century and Bhuveneshwar Kumar’s maiden five-wicket haul in the ODIs led India to a six wicket win that forced Sri Lanka to a first ever home-series whitewash. India has dominated the Lankans throughout the tour without even dropping a single including Test and ODIs.

Chasing a modest target, India started rather slowly losing wickets cheaply, visitors were 29/2 but Manish Pandey joined Kohli and they steadied the ship, putting on a 99-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Pandey lost concentration and gave his wicket away, but Virat Kohli was in the mood for destruction and went on to notch his 30th century in ODIs and guided India to an easy victory.

MS Dhoni, who earlier in the day became the first wicketkeeper to inflict 100 stumpings in ODIs.

Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar then did the cleanup job as the home side yet again failed to touch 250 in the series. A familiar tale was met with a familiar outcome in the end!  Bhuvneshwar Kumar grabbed a career best 5/42 affecting another batting collapse. He was named the man of the match while Bumrah with 15 wickets in the series was named the man of the series.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 238 in 49.4 overs (Lahiru Thirimanne 67, Angelo Mathews 55; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 5-42, Jasprit Bumrah 2-45) lost to India 239/4 in 46.3 overs (Virat Kohli 110*, Kedar Jadhav 63; Wanidu Hasaranga 1-29) by six wickets.
