FIFA U-17 World Cup: Aman Chetri ruled out for the tournament

A major blow for India ahead of the Under-17 World Cup as striker Aman Chhetri has been ruled out for upcoming tournament to be played in India from October 6th. In a now-deleted Instagram post, the striker from Guwahati has stated that he had failed to recover from a nagging injury sustained earlier this year and that the team doctors advised him against playing the tournament.

Chhetri is considered as one of the brightest prospects and was expected to lead the attack on home turf, he was also handed the number 9 shirt for the Under-17 team. Aman along with Komal Thatal played for the team up front in the AFC Under-16 Championships in Goa.

The talented striker was supposed to join the team for training and but failed to do. With Chetri out of the running, Thatal, Nongdamba Naorem, Shubham Sarangi and Rahul KP are the other forwards in the squad. India plays their first game against the United States on opening day.
