FIFA U-17 WC: My good performance matters little says Dheeraj Singh

Indian goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh had a massive game against the United States; he was one of the top performers in India’s disappointing defeat in the tournament opener. He made some crucial same to keep the score-line respectable, his exploits under the bar even drew praise from USA coach John Hackworth.

But the young keeper, who made at least three massive saves, including a point-blank shot by star striker Josh Sargent was gutted with the result, stating that his good performance matters little.  

The Manipuri also rued about the second goal scored by the US from a deflection.

“Basically, it (the goal) was a deflection and you know it was from a corner and one of my team-mates touched it and the ball landed in front of the opponent who kicked it and deflected into the net. I could not do anything,” he said.

However, the Manipuri lad vowed to continue the same in the next match and keep the same confidence throughout the tournament.
