Three from Six Will Lose Premier League Relegation Battle

Football | Wednesday | 24th June, 2020

Just four points separate 15th from second-bottom in the table going into the football restart. That means there is all to play for in the battle against the drop.

Which teams are involved? More to the point, what are their chances of survival and odds of going down? Let’s take a look.

Norwich City is in very deep indeed. The Carrow Road club were surprise winners of the Championship last season when not particularly fancied to figure in the mix for promotion.

Although the Canaries defied the odds in that campaign, the reality of stepping up into the Premier League has been stark. Betway are a best-price 1/9 about Norwich being relegated and, as they are four points adrift at the foot of the table and six from safety, it’s easy to see why they are favourites.

It takes a leap of faith to believe Daniel Farke can keep the East Anglia outfit up from this unenviable position. Norwich have the worst goal difference in the Premier League, and that is why they are 8/1 shots with Ladbrokes to survive.

Fellow promoted side Aston Villa are also mired in relegation waters and two points from safety. The 2019 Championship play-off final winners lost goalkeeper Tom Heaton and Brazilian striker Wesley to injuries which have hindered their hopes of preserving their Premier League status.

Villa too are odds-on for relegation at 2/5 with Coral and 15/8 with Betfair to stay up. Dean Smith needs skipper Jack Grealish to lead by example if they are to have any hope of remaining in the division.

Bournemouth complete the bottom three going into the restart. After five seasons in the Premier League, this club of modest means were due a struggle because of the perpetual problems of swimming with sharks without the financial muscle to match.

Eddie Howe has done a fine job with the Cherries, and things remain finely balanced. They are 5/6 with Betway to go down, yet evens with Betfred to get out of trouble. If you click here to see all available free bets, you will also find the latest Premier League offers.

Watford just have their heads above the relegation zone in a typical topsy-turvy season at Vicarage Road full of managerial sackings. Nigel Pearson has steadied the ship at the Hornets, however, and that is why BetVictor go 5/2 about the drop for them. They are as short as 1/3 to stay up.

West Ham United have the same number of points as Watford and Bournemouth, so David Moyes doesn’t have the big spenders out of the woods yet. Paddy Power are 21/10 about the Hammers losing their top-flight status and 2/5 about the Londoners remaining in the Premier League.

Brighton & Hove Albion enjoy a two-point cushion on the bottom three, but haven’t won a league match in 2020. Graham Potter should have gathered the Seagulls together and got them back to basics by now, though, so they are 3/1 chances with Betfair for relegation and long odds-on to survive.
