Bolivia’s Juan Carlos scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Chile’s Diaz handed the ball in the area.

The unexpected loss means Chile are placed in the final automatic qualification spot as Alexis Sanchez side struggled to carve out an opening. It is Chile’s second successive loss whereas the victory does nothing for Bolivia as they have no hope of qualifying for Russia 2018.

While Argentina, who were level on point with Chile before the match started managed to come from behind to draw with Venezuela, the star studded side failed secure easy three points which mean they are still a long way from guaranteeing their place in Russia next year.

Messi led side were firm favourite to win the match as they were playing a side without a win in 10 games but they failed to capitalize the opportunity and the home side trooped off to the boos of their disgruntled fans.

Whereas leader Brazil who has already qualified for the World Cup drew with Colombia in a hard-fought thrilling contest after Falcao’s second half header cancelled out Willian’s sublime first-half volley. The result kept the Colombians in second place behind them with two matches remaining.
