Premier League transfer window to shut before season starts

Premier League managers like Arsene Wenger, Klopp and others complained that summer transfer window should close before the new season starts. Finally, their wishes were fulfilled as the clubs voted to close next summer’s transfer window before the 2018-19 season starts.

The managers argued that signing players once the season is under way cause disruption to their squad and preparations. However, the vote was unanimous, fourteen Premier League clubs voted in favour of the amendment, the minimum required for the decision to be approved. Both the Manchester team along with Watford, Swansea and Crystal Palace voted against, while Burnley abstained.

The window across Europe runs until 31 August. The Premier League's move means while clubs will be able to sell until that date, buying activity will cease on 9 August for the 2018-19 season.

The early finish does not mean that Premier League transfer period will be shorter, it will start earlier and be 12 weeks long, in line with FIFA rules.
