Champions League: Messi magic inspires Barca, PSG thrashes Celtics

Barcelona kicked off their Champions League campaign in a magnificent style, defeating Juventus 3-0 at their home turf. Messi (who else?) led the charge, scoring two fantastic goals as he finally scores past legendary figure of Buffon. Messi netted in both halves and with Ivan Rakitic also scoring Barcelona never looked like slipping up.

The Italian giants had their chances too, Dybala and Pjanic all tested the Barcelona’s goalkeeper but nothing convincing. It was Barcelona’s day and with the victory, they avenged their last season’s quarter-finals defeat against the Old Lady.

While Barcelona adapt to live without Neymar, the Brazilian superstar is enjoying his life with PSG and scored the opener in their superb 5-0 victory over Celtic in Glasgow. The nature of the victory was a real statement of intent from the big spenders who are determined to clinch the Europe’s elite club competition.

Mbappe, the second most expensive player in the world grabbed his second goal in two games and his striking partner Cavani also netted twice to finish off the helpless Celtics.

"Defensively we were just too far off them and secondly I was disappointed in how we retained the ball. We didn't keep the ball for long enough," Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said.

"If you do that against what is arguably the best team in the world just now they will punish you."
