Champions League: Spurs have failed to score in four meeting with Madrid

Tottenham is set to play one of their biggest game as they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to face defending champion Real Madrid in their first of back-to-back group stage games between the two sides. The two sides boast 100 percent record in the current Champions League campaign, winning both their games so far.

The teams have clashed four times throughout their history with Madrid winning three and drawing once — Tottenham has failed to score on all four occasions.

1985- UEFA Cup quarter-final

First leg: This was the first time Spurs met Madrid and they suffered their first ever home defeat in Europe with Steve Perryman’s 15th minute own goal.

Second leg: It got worse for Perryman when he was sent off for fouling Jorge Valdano. Real went on to beat Inter Milan in the final.

2011-Champions League quarter-final

First Leg: Tottenham was thrashed by Mourinho’s side, scoring past four goals to put the tie beyond Spurs.

Second leg: Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the game following a blunder from Heurelho Gomes.
