Mbappe beats Jesus, Dembele to Golden Boy Award

PSG’s teen sensation Mbappe has won the prestigious Golden Boy award for the best young player in Europe. The 18-year-old won the award of the likes of Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Barcelona’s Dembele and Manchester United’s Rashford.

The French international had a breakthrough season last year, scoring six Champions League goals to propel Monaco to the semi-finals while played a huge part in the clubs title winning Ligue-1 season during which he scored 15 league goals.

Mbappé is now on loan at PSG, where he has scored four goals and made four assists in 11 games. He will make the move permanent in a £166m transfer next summer. Mbappe won by an overwhelming 291 votes, with Dembele coming second.  The 18-year-old joins the illustrious list which includes Messi, Rooney and Aguero. France has the won the more times than any other nation: Pogba, Martial and Mbappe.

The prize is voted on by journalists from across the world, with Italian newspaper Tuttosport confirming the winner on Monday.
