Manchester City bagged the bragging right after defeated United at Old Trafford and snapping their 40 games without losing at home. David Silva opening the scoring in the fiercely contested encounter but Marcus Rashford equalled score in the closing minute of the first half.

City took the lead in when Silva's free-kick should have been cleared by Romelu Lukaku, but instead the Belgian slammed a panicked clearance into the back of United team-mate Chris Smalling and the ball looped towards Argentine defender Otamendi, who stretched to fire home.

With the win, City equalled the top flight record of 14 wins in a row, set by Arsenal across two campaigns in 2002.

According to reports, the two rivals were involved in an ugly tunnel brawl as tempers boiled over after the derby.

United manager Jose Mourinho was disappointed City regarding their post-derby celebrations and demanded their players to show ‘more respect’ as music blared out of their dressing room. Mourinho walked into the away dressing room and was confronted by City goalkeeper Ederson. The two were then involved in a heated exchange, squaring up and shouting at each other in Portuguese.

The British newspaper stated that United's security had to break up a brawl involving 20 players and staff members from both clubs, which was said to have occurred near the Old Trafford tunnel.
