Six-time world champion boxer Mary Kom and men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh will be India's flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. IOA gave this information on Monday. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will be held on 23 July and end on August 8. Meanwhile, Wrestler Bajrang Punia has been chosen as the flag bearer of the Indian team in the closing ceremony.

The Tokyo Olympics will be held from 23 July to 8 August. This event was to be held last year itself, but due to the Covid-19 epidemic it had to be postponed.

There will be two flag bearers in the Olympics - a woman and a man for the first time, IOA President Narinder Batra has said that this has been done to ensure gender equality in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. Shooter Abhinav Bindra was India's flag bearer in the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Bindra won the gold medal in 2008. So far, he is the only player from India to win a gold medal in the singles event at the Olympic Games.

Mary Kom, the first woman boxer to win a medal for India in the Olympics, can create a new history by getting her second medal this time. This is believed to be the last Olympics of the 38-year-old boxer and she will leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable one.
