Tokyo Olympics 2020 opening ceremony commences, Mary Kom, Manpreet to lead 19-member Indian contingent

The grand opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games has begun at 4.30 pm on Friday. The opening ceremony of the biggest sports event is being held amidst a limited number of restrictions.

Six-time world champion boxer Mary Kom and men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh are all set to represent India as flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. The tournament will start on 23 July and end on August 8.

Among the 19 players who will take part in the opening ceremony, swordsman CA Bhavani Devi, gymnast Pranati Nayak and swimmer Sajan Prakash, besides eight boxers will also represent India in the opening ceremony. Apart from them Simranjit Kaur, Lovlina Borgohain, Pooja Rani, Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik, Ashish Kumar and Satish Kumar will be part of the ceremony. Tennis player Ankita Raina will take part in place of table tennis players.

900 officers and journalists will be present there. The celebrations will include various cultural events and the Olympic Parade and March Past, where contingents from all countries will march forward waving their flag.
