Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu bags Indis's first silver at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Mirabai Chanu has won India's first medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai Chanu did this amazing feat in women's weightlifting of 49 kg. She lifted a total of 202 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk rounds and won the silver medal. While Mirabai lifted 87 kg in the snatch round, she lifted 115 kg in the clean and jerk. China's weightlifter won the gold medal in women's weightlifting in the 49 kg category.

Mirabai Chanu started clean and jerk round by lifting 110 kgs. She lifted 115 kg in the second attempt. At the same time, she failed to lift 117 kg in the third attempt. On the other hand, the Chinese weightlifter won the gold medal in clean and jerk by lifting 116 kg.

Chanu, the 2017 world champion in weightlifting, secured her spot in Tokyo by winning a bronze medal by setting a world record at the Asian Championships in Tashkent in April.

The 26-year-old from Manipur secured the quota on the basis of the ranking list of the IWF. This Indian lifter is second in the 49kg category with a score of 4133,6172.
