Mirabai Chanu's silver can be updated to gold, China's Hou Zhihui to be tested for doping

China's weightlifter Zhihui Hou, who won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, will be tested for doping on Saturday and if she fails the test, then India's Mirabai Chanu will be awarded the Gold Medal in place of silver.

Chinese player Zhihui Hou won the gold medal on the second day of the Olympics on Saturday by lifting a total of 210 kg and also set a new Olympic record.

The rules clearly state, if an athlete fails a doping test, the athlete who wins silver will be awarded gold. Mirabai Chanu won India's first medal in the women's 49kg category at the Tokyo International Forum on Saturday.

Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk rounds and won the silver medal. While Mirabai lifted 87 kg in the snatch round, she lifted 115 kg in the clean and jerk.

Chanu, the 2017 world champion in weightlifting, secured her spot in Tokyo by winning a bronze medal by setting a world record at the Asian Championships in Tashkent in April.

The 26-year-old from Manipur secured the quota on the basis of the ranking list of the IWF. This Indian lifter is second in the 49kg category with a score of 4133,6172.
