Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain earns qaurterfinal qualification, one win away from olympic medal

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) defeated Germany's Nedin Apetz 3-2 in the Round of 16 of the Olympic Games boxing event. If Lovlina goes to the semi-finals, then her bronze medal is sure. The quarterfinal match will be held on 30 July.

Two-time World Championship medalist, Lovlina is the first boxer from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. 1.77m tall Lovlina Borgohain is competing in the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.

Born on 2 October 1997 in the Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina Borgohain is the first woman athlete from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. She is the second boxer from the state, after Shiv Thapa, to represent the country. She won the Arjuna Award in 2020 on the basis of her brilliant performance and became the sixth person from Assam to do so.
