Indian athletics suffered numerous setbacks in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 today. Indian female sprinter Dutee Chand has been ousted from Tokyo Olympics after performing poorly in the early stages. Dutee could not repeat her best performance. Dutee clocked 11.54 seconds in the 100 meters race, her national record is 11.17 seconds. She finished seventh in the fifth heat and 45th out of a total of 54 contestants. Dutee made it to the Olympics based on the world ranking.
She could not cross the qualification mark of 11.15m, she had also qualified based on world ranking in 200m.
India's Avinash Sable set a new national record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:18.12 but could not qualify for the final as he finished seventh in his heat. In addition to the top three players from each heat, the next 6 fastest players qualified for the finals. Avinash Sable finished 13th in terms of time.
MP Jabir also crashed out of the men's 400m hurdles. Jabir finished seventh and last in his heat. He finished 33rd out of 36 contestants with a timing of 50.77 seconds. His personal best is 49.13 seconds. The first four and the next four best players from the five heats advance to the semi-finals.
The Indian team (Sarthak Bhambri, Alex Antony, Revathi Veeramani, Subha Venkatesan and Dhanalakshmi Sekar) finished last in the qualifying heat 2 of the Mixed 4*400m relay and missed out on qualifying for the finals.
