The Indian women's hockey team has created history in the Tokyo Olympics. The team secured its place in the semi-finals for the first time after beating Australia 1-0 in the quarter-final match. Gurjit Kaur scored the only goal for India by converting a penalty corner in the 22nd minute of the game.

The Indian team dominated the Kangaroo team throughout the match and continued their aggressive game. The Indian team, led by captain Rani Rampal, made it to the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games for the first time in 41 years.

Apart from this, India's defence line and goalkeeper Savita Punia's performance is praiseworthy who did not give a chance to a strong team like Australia to score a single goal in this high-pressure match. Australia got 7 penalty corners in the entire match but they failed to convert even one.

Indian women's hockey team won the match played against South Africa 4-3. After that, after defeating Ireland 2–0, they travelled to the quarter-finals.
