India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra performed brilliantly in the Tokyo Olympics; he threw the javelin 86.65 meters in the very first attempt and earned a spot in the finals of the javelin throw event. A throw of 83.50 meters is required to enter the final directly. Neeraj will now show his strength in the final match on 7 August.
Neeraj, participating in his first Olympics, took only a short time to make it to the final round. The qualification mark for the final was 83.50 metres. Neeraj, who participated in Group A, easily overcame it. Finland's Lassie Atletello also qualified directly for the final with a throw of 84.50m.
The 23-year-old Indian did not make the remaining two attempts after his first attempt. He left the arena. An athlete gets a total of three attempts, out of which his best valid attempt is counted.
Former world junior champion Chopra topped Group A among 16 players. His personal and season best performance is 88.07m which he made at the Indian Grand Prix 3 in Patiala in March 2021.
Neeraj has won medals in 6 major tournaments at the international level. He has won Gold Medal in Jakarta Asian Memes in 2018, Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Asian Championship in 2017, South Asian Games in 2016, Junior World Championship in 2016. While in 2016 won the silver medal in the Junior Asian Championship.
