Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain loses semi-final bout, wins 3rd medal for the country

Women's Boxing (69 kg weight category) Lovlina Borgohain lost against Turkey's No. 1 boxer Busenaz Surmenelli, Lovlina will have to be settle with the bronze medal. Busenaj Surmenelli dominated Lovlina all three rounds. Lovlina lost the first and second rounds by 0-5.

Despite losing in the semi-finals, Lovlina has created history. Lovlina is the first female boxer from India to win a medal in the 69 kg category. Apart from this, in the history of Olympic Games, apart from Lovlina, only two players from India have won medals. Before Lovlina, Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom have won bronze medals in the Olympic Games.

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) defeated former world champion Chinese Taipei's N.C.Chen 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games boxing event.

Lovlina is also not new to this sport and she has so far won two world championship bronze medals in her career. The Turkish boxer was the winner in the 2019 championship while Lovlina got the bronze medal.

Born on 2 October 1997 in the Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina Borgohain is the first woman athlete from Assam to qualify for the Olympics.
