India's gold medal hope Bajrang Punia bows out to Azerbaijan's Haji Aliyev in SF bout, bronze medal hopes alive

India's last hope of winning a gold medal on the wrestling match of the Tokyo Olympics was also shattered with the defeat of Bajrang Punia. In the semi-final match, Bajrang was defeated by Azerbaijan's wrestler Haji Aliyev.

Star wrestler Bajrang Punia, India's biggest hope in the Tokyo Olympics, has lost 5-12 to Azerbaijan's wrestler Haji Aliyev in the semi-finals of the 65 kg weight category.

Bajrang took a one point lead in the opening minute. But, the wrestler of Azerbaijan placed his bet on Bajrang. The Azerbaijan wrestler scored several points against Bajrang. Haji Aliyev is defending Olympic medalist and three-time world champion.

After this defeat, the Indian wrestler will fight for the bronze medal. Bajrang will face the wrestler of Russia in the bronze medal match. Bajrang Punia had earlier defeated Morteza Ghiasi of Iran in the Quarter-final and Ernazar Akmataliev of Kyrgyzstan in his pre-quarterfinal match.
