Parents lauds CBSE’s guidelines to allow NCERT textbooks

There is huge difference in the cost of NCERT textbooks and private publishers' books. AGRA: Parents have welcomed the Central Board of Secondary Education's new guidelines that allows NCERT textbooks in CBSE-affiliated schools from the 2017 academic session, saying it will reduce financial burden on them and end booksellers' monopoly.The board has also asked affiliated schools to submit their requirement for NCERT textbooks online.Anjul Singh, whose son studies in Class III at a CBSE-affiliated school, said, "This will reduce our spending on textbooks as NCERT books are cheaper in comparison to books of private publishers.""Last year, I spent Rs 3,500 on my son's textbooks, but now I will have to spend just Rs 300. There is huge difference in the cost of NCERT textbooks and private publishers' books. It will be a huge relief to the parents," she added.Sunil Lawania, whose daughter is a Class VII student, said, "Booksellers make huge profit due to their monopoly in the market and do not give even discounts. Parents don't have any option, but to buy books from the shop suggested by schools.
