Raj Bhawan to host spring fest from March 4

DEHRADUN: Bhawan is set to host the annual Spring Festival (Basantotsav) on March 4 and March 5 here. Floral rangoli, painting competition for poor or disabled children, a photo exhibition and a philatelic exhibition will also be part of the festival. The fest will also give thrust to handicrafts and cuisine of the state.Paul said, “The annual event will be shaped up in such a manner that farmers and customers of medicinal plants, floriculturists, producers of organic items can look upon it as a platform/ opportunity. The dates were announced on Monday in a meeting presided over by governor K K Paul.The governor will inaugurate the festival and release the special postal cover which will have medicinal Van Tulsi as its theme plant.On days of the festival, cultural programme by folk artistes of Uttarakhand will be organized in the evening. It would be encouraging and economically beneficial to producers in the state if they could meet buyers from New Delhi and other cities at such an event.”The horticulture staff of Raj Bhawan, on the initiative of the governor, will display how hanging garden and vertical gardens can be created by people living in limited spaces.A special stall will be put up to display and sell products/ handicrafts made by inmates of nari niketan and poor women from other organizations.
