Uttarakhand elections 2017: Dehradun prepares for polling day

DEHRADUN: The Dehradun district administration has formed 1725 polling booths including one consisting of all women polling officers at Nari Niketan in Dehradun district. Total 7824 personal have been deputed on 1725 polling booths on polling day.38 polling booths will be monitored live by Election commission of India through web casting. District magistrate Ravinath Raman said, "There are total 357 vulnerable booths and 163 vulnerable polling stations but none is critical. Maximum 52 vulnerable booths are in Raipur followed by 50 in Rishikesh and 43 in Doiwala. Maximum 25 polling stations have been created in Chakrata .

Maximum 25 polling stations have been created in Chakrata . 13.70,448 voters including 7, 33, 996 men, 646268 women and 43 others will vote in the district. Of this 9859 are people who are working out of state but have their voter card in the district.Chakrata has maximum 216 booths, with Dharampur 196, Raipur 190 and Sahaspur 184 booths. District magistrate Ravinath Raman said, "There are total 357 vulnerable booths and 163 vulnerable polling stations but none is critical. Maximum 52 vulnerable booths are in Raipur followed by 50 in Rishikesh and 43 in Doiwala. ECI will not be able to see the voters casting their vote, rest everything else on the location will be monitored by their officials which will not be accessible to public . Less force is being deployed on web casting place as the place is already under the surveillance of CCTV cameras and other gadgets.Baniyala in Chakrata is the polling booth with longest distance among all where polling parties will have to walk for 13.5 km while Plade in Doiwala is the second one with walking distance of 5 km. Landour in Mussoorie is the highest polling booth at 7000 ft height followed by Daluda in Chakrata at 6600 ft.He said that 23 polling parties are leaving for Chakratat on Saturday, 80 on Sunday and remaining on Monday. The polling officers have been given training in two stages first for two days on January 23-24 and then three days from February 6.It is only in Dharampur 196 voter verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines have been installed for voting. Raman said that the initial shortcoming in the VVPAT which were seen during Punjab election has been removed.Raman said, till date 24157 unauthorized publicity material including hoarding, banners etc were seized on public property and 10255 on private property by the district administration.There will be separate queues for senior citizens, pregnant women and handicapped. The district borders will be sealed 48 hours before the polling with only those showing their identity cards will be allowed to enter into the district.
