MY MLA MY AGENDA Minna Zutshi Ludhiana, March 21 Ludhiana North MLA Rakesh Pandey says his agenda would be to fulfil the promises made by the Congress. Re-elected as MLA for the sixth time (1992, 1997, 1999 byelection, 2002, 2012 and 2017), the Congress leader plans to address the issues of industry as a top priority. In the past 10 years, industry has been in dire straits, he said. “The SAD-BJP tenure saw industry at its lowest point. There was hardly any cogent strategy for the progress of industry in the tenure of the previous government. Now that the government has changed in the state, industrial revival is imperative.” According to Pandey, setting up new industrial units is not so important as reviving the sick industry. He plans to meet industrialists to discuss with them the steps that would help in reviving the industry in Punjab. Education is an important sector that cannot be ignored, according to Pandey. “There are schools that need better infrastructure. In my previous tenures as MLA, we provided computers to schools and got the boundary walls constructed, all with the help of the funds provided by the then Member of Parliament (MP) Manish Tewari and the present MP Ravneet Singh Bittu.” Infrastructure development of schools is also on Pandey’s ‘to-do’ list. “Because of the paucity of funds, many projects could not be completed earlier. But now, I’ll make all efforts to complete these pending projects,” said Pandey. Medical infrastructure and services, too, need attention as healthcare services were neglected under the rule of the previous government, he said. Civic amenities like sewerage and water supply are on Pandey’s agenda. “Developmental work is pending in some wards of my constituency. Completing these would be a top priority for me.” There are some pockets in the constituency where drug problem dominates. The MLA said he would also focus on these areas so that the issue is addressed at the earliest.
