Train of demands greets Minister

The Thanjavur District Rail Users' Association in its plea to the Minister sought the regularisation of the Kochuveli-Karaikal special train via Mayiladuthurai, diversion of one Tiruchi-Howrah Express via Thanjavur and Kumbakonam and new service between Kumbakonam and Guruvayoor. Dhanaseelane wanted restoration of the Karaikal-Nagore-Tiruchi passenger service, restoring the rail link between Karaikal and Tirunallar, study on a rail route between Chennai and Ramanathapuram via the coastal areas of Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Muthupettai, Adirampattinam, Tondi and Devipattinam.

Bharathimohan in his memorandum to the Railway Minister sought track doubling of the Thanjavur-Villupuram section, restoration of the Mayiladuthurai-Tranquebar railway line, extension of platforms at Kumbakonam station, provision of wi-fi connectivity in Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai stations, converting the passenger train between Mayiladuthurai and Tiruchi a permanent service, halting of express trains at Aduthurai station, provision of additional passenger amenities at Papanasam station, restoration of train services to Thoothukudi and Shencottah via the Main Line, new train service between Kumbakonam and Guruvayoor, Thanjavur and Hubli, Thanjavur and Mumbai CST among other others. Kumbakonam MLA G. Anbalagan, in his memorandum, sought coach maintenance facility at Kumbakonam station, new rail line between Kumbakonam and Vriddhachalam via Jayamkondam, new rail line between Kumbakonam and Nidamangalam, routing of Puducherry-Mangalore weekly express via Kumbakonam, Tiruchi, Pollachi and Palghat, passenger service between Thanjavur and Villupuram and increasing the frequency of Rameswaram-Manduadih weekly express.
