Protest in Vadakadu continues

A batch of women staged the stir on the grounds near Vadakadu - Avanam highway. The stir by residents of Vadakadu against the proposed exploration of hydrocarbon entered 18th day on Wednesday. They raised slogans that their demand to shelve the project was yet to be heard by the Central government. They brought vegetables, fruits and greens cultivated in the village indicating that the fertile land would be converted into a polluted zone if the hydrocarbon project was permitted. Divided into three batches, the villagers staged a stir on Wednesday.

A batch of women staged the stir on the grounds near Vadakadu - Avanam highway. They brought vegetables, fruits and greens cultivated in the village indicating that the fertile land would be converted into a polluted zone if the hydrocarbon project was permitted. Another batch took out a procession through main roads in the village. They raised slogans that their demand to shelve the project was yet to be heard by the Central government. The third batch rode by bullock carts in support of the demand to protect their land. They pasased resolutions urging the Centre to shelve the project. They wanted the state government to permit a special gram sabha in villages to adopt resolution against the project. They said that agricultural activity in the village had been totally disturbed because of the stir. “We cannot concentrate on our regular routine work in crop management,” they said.
