Congress faces rebellion on Atam Nagar constituency

They have sent their resignations to Rahul Gandhi and demanded that the ticket be changed in two days or else there will be a big step taken in the said assembly. But allotment of ticket to someone like Karwal who belongs to the rival party is very unfortunate and is nothing less than cheating with the workers who were expecting that only deserving candidate from Congress party itself will be given the ticket.

LUDHIANA: A day after Congress party witnessed two of its leaders belonging to North constituency turn rebel and leave the party after they were denied ticket, anger is brewing among the supporters of two prominent leaders of the party who were seeking ticket from Atam Nagar constituency but it was given to Kamaljit Singh Karwal who defected from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) a few days back. Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Kulwant Sidhu on Sunday staged a protest march from Aditya Jetli Chowk till Model Town against party's decision of not giving him ticket. On the other hand dozens of supporters of other ticket seeker Congress Youth wing leader Parvinder Lapran gave mass resignations as a mark of protest against ticket to Karwal. It is pertinent to mention here that both these leaders had earlier protested outside Sonia Gandhi's residence in Delhi when Karwal's name cropped up for consideration as a probable candidate from Atam Nagar.Speaking to TOI, Kulwant Sidhu said, "I am party's foot soldier and have been working with thousands of workers for years now in the Atam Nagar constituency day and night tirelessly. But allotment of ticket to someone like Karwal who belongs to the rival party is very unfortunate and is nothing less than cheating with the workers who were expecting that only deserving candidate from Congress party itself will be given the ticket. Moreover, it's the age-old tradition of the party that anyone who joins the Congress from other party should remain the member of Congress for at least 6 years and it's only after that he or she is eligible to contest elections." Sidhu also said, "I respect verdict of the people and based upon their request i joined their protest march against the decision to allot ticket to Karwal and we have demanded that his ticket should be cancelled immediately."Meanwhile, several workers of Congress from Atam Nagar have warned the high command that if the party does not changes the ticket of this constituency, they will resign and will never let Karwal win from this seat.On the other hand, dozens of Youth Congress and NSUI office-bearers tendered their resignations today and warned the INC national leadership to reconsider the decision of allotting the ticket tKarwal . They demanded that the ticket be changed and allotted to Parvinder Singh Lapran who has been working hard since long adding not even a single seat has been allotted to youth in 14 assembly segments falling under district Ludhiana. They have sent their resignations to Rahul Gandhi and demanded that the ticket be changed in two days or else there will be a big step taken in the said assembly.
