Max notices served in Sahnewal

Another RO said maximum violations/ complaints are about defacement of properties, where candidates have defaced public as well as private properties. And, there are perhaps maximum violations in these constituencies by all candidates,” said the RO.

Of total 46 show-cause notices served to parties/ candidates in Ludhiana district till date, 28 notices have been served in Sahnewal constituency alone. Returning Officer of Constituency Number 59 (Sahnewal) Dalwinderjit Singh told Ludhiana Tribune that 28 notices have been served in the constituency so far to parties and candidates. On being asked the nature of violation, the RO said: Defacement of property all over the constituency by candidates of all major parties is the main reason. We are making a list of expenditure, which will be sent to them. Observers are keeping an eye on everything,” the RO said. The other notices issued to constituencies by the District Election Office include eight to Constituency 67 (Payal–SC), two to Constituency 64 (Ludhiana West), six to Constituency 69 ( Raikot-SC), one each to constituencies 66 and 68 (Gill-SC and Dakha respectively). Another RO said maximum violations/ complaints are about defacement of properties, where candidates have defaced public as well as private properties. “There are a few sensitive constituencies such as Atam Nagar, Ludhiana South etc, where the staff feel reluctant to remove posters/ banners and hoardings. A staff member of tehbazari wing of MC said they will face the wrath of musclemen/ supporters of candidates if they remove the posters/banners in sensitive constituencies. And, there are perhaps maximum violations in these constituencies by all candidates,” said the RO. DC Ravi Bhagat said they were regularly sending detailed reports to the observers, who will take a final call on everything. “Strict instructions have been given to the staff to adhere to the directions of the Election Commission,” Bhagat said.
